Services offered

From assessments, personalized treatment plans, health coaching and community support, the MAT program at Bicycle Health Pasadena offers a wealth of opioid dependence treatment and recovery support to fit into your busy life.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

In our MAT program, an expert licensed physician will perform an assessment and prescribe Buprenorphine/Naloxone (Suboxone) if appropriate. This will help you with cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Over time, our physicians will help you get off Suboxone by slowly tapering it down.

Opioid Taper

If you are not ready to quit taking opioids yet, our expert physicians can help you taper down your opioid use. We will create a taper schedule to decrease your dosage a little bit every few months. We ensure that your pain is managed and that you don't experience any withdrawals.

Health Coaching

Throughout your treatment, a Health Coach will be your partner, mentor, spiritual guide, and support system to help you adjust to a new lifestyle. Through constant communication, your Health Coach will help you work through any challenges you face as you make strides toward your life goals.

How it works

1

Call us and talk to a health coach

A trained health coach will learn more about you, your opiate withdrawal symptoms, your cravings, mental health needs and your health goals. Get answers to any questions you might have and make sure that our mat program can help you reach your goals.

2

Just one In-person appointment

Meet your doctor in a private office in Pasadena. No waiting rooms, no signage. Just you and your expert doctor. After a thorough medical evaluation, the doctor will choose the right care plan for you to help you decrease your opioid use.

3

Follow ups over chat, phone and video calls

After the first in-person appointment, all follow ups with your doctor will be over phone calls. You can always reach your doctor and a team of health coaches via our secure app. It is common to send a message and get a response within minutes.

4

Electronic prescription refills, home delivered

Your prescription will be sent electronically to a pharmacy near you. Your medications can also be delivered to your home or work in a discreet package for free. The prescription will be refilled at every follow up call with your doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of treatment do you do?+
We help people who are looking to reduce their use of opiates. One option we offer is Medication Assisted Treatment using Suboxone to curb opioid cravings. We also offer opioid tapering services to help you decrease the dose of the opioid you’d like to cut back on. Both treatment plans have the option of tapering fully off of opioids, or long term management.
How much does this cost?+
Our treatment fees are $199/month. This monthly fee includes your first appointment, all follow ups, and access to a secure messaging app where you can reach us in between appointments for anything you need. You can use your insurance to pay for prescriptions and labs. We also accept Medicare for our treatment fees at our Modesto location.
What can you prescribe to help with pain and withdrawal symptoms?+
Our physicians prescribe medications like Tizanidine (muscle relaxant), Hydroxyzine (non addictive sedative and for anxiety), Loperamide (diarrhea and abdominal cramps) and Naproxen (muscle pain). If you are in still in pain, we shall utilize non opioid alternatives to manage your pain. The exact option depends on the cause of pain and can vary based on whether or not you have chronic pain.
Is this treatment confidential?+
Yes. We will never share any health information with anyone else unless we have your explicit consent.
Do you have to be in withdrawal to start treatment?+
You don’t need to be in withdrawal at your first appointment. However, when you are starting your Suboxone prescription you will need to abstain from using your substance of choice and you will experience some withdrawal symptoms. Then, you will start the prescription which will help with those symptoms. You may have some side effects as you adjust to the medication, but we will be available to help you with anything you need! Your provider will work closely with you throughout the process to check in on how you’re doing and help you through it. If you have concerns about this process, we’d be happy to schedule a time for one of our providers to give you a call to talk more in detail about it
Will I get a prescription at my first appointment?+
Yes! The provider will call in your prescription to the pharmacy of your choice. Refills will be prescribed during follow ups. We can home deliver your refills to you if you’d like as well!
Does the doctor only prescribe Suboxone, or do they prescribe other things too?+
For opioid dependence treatment, we only offer Suboxone. While Methadone can also be used to treat opioid dependence, you have to visit a clinic weekly to obtain the prescription, and that doesn’t fit with our telemedicine model. The providers can and do prescribe other medications to treat things other than opioid dependence. However, this is done on a case to case basis and we do ask that you seek help from a primary care provider for prescriptions you might need that are not directly related to your opioid dependence treatment. For example, if your Suboxone is making you nauseous, your provider might prescribe something to help with that.
Can I switch from Methadone to Suboxone?+
We can help you transition from Methadone to Suboxone, just as long as you are currently on 20mg or less of Methadone. If you are currently taking more than that, we would need to wait until your dose is less than 20mg to start your treatment. It is dangerous to switch from a higher dose of Methadone to Suboxone, because it would be too much of a difference in dosages. The side effects would be too much and it can be dangerous. Please do work on getting your dose down and reach back out to us when you are ready to make the switch!
Can I use my insurance to pay for this treatment?+
We only accept Medicare at this time. If you have any other insurance, you can utilize our self pay option of $199 / month. We are happy to provide you a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company to potentially get some of that money back using your out-of-network benefits. That said, you can use your insurance to pay for medications and lab tests. Just take your insurance card with you to the pharmacy or the lab.
Do you take Medicare?+
We currently accept Medicare at our Modesto location only. If you are interested in treatment at a different location, the fees for treatment would be $199/month. You can use Medicare to pay for your prescriptions and any lab work. We shall soon be able to accept Medicare at all other locations as well.
Do you accept Medi-Cal?+
We do not accept Medi-Cal for our fees. That said, you can use your Medi-Cal benefits card to pay for medications and lab tests. Just take your card with you to the pharmacy or the lab.
What's included in this monthly fee?+
The monthly fee includes scheduled follow ups via phone or video calls to refill your prescription. It also includes getting care via unlimited chat messages in between scheduled visits, unscheduled doctor visits and any care navigation as needed.
Do you offer refunds?+
You may cancel your appointment anytime within 24 hours before your appointment and no charge will be made. We do not offer refunds if you have spoken with the doctor over the phone or seen the doctor in-person.
Can I pay with cash or check?+
Since we are an online clinic, we can't accept cash or checks. Also, since we have a subscription based model (as opposed to paying at each appointment), it is more convenient to use a credit or debit card. If you don’t have a bank card to use, you can purchase a Visa gift card with your cash and we can run that through our card processing system.
How much will the prescriptions cost?+
If you have insurance, the prescriptions will be covered by your insurance company. If you don’t have insurance, the cost of your prescription could be around $100-$150 a month. Although, that does depend on your dose and which pharmacy you go to. If you choose to have your prescriptions home delivered, the cost would be lesser than if you choose to pick up from a pharmacy.
How long will this treatment take?+
This is not a quick fix. It really depends on how long you’ve been using opioids for and how much you use. How well you personally respond to treatment can make a big difference as well, so it really is hard to predict beforehand and varies patient to patient. The recovery process takes time, but we will be here to help you through every part of the process no matter how long it takes! Luckily, Suboxone will curb your cravings and won’t leave you feeling foggy, so you can function very well while on the medication. In short, the process will likely be long, but worth it.
Do you have a location close to where I live?+
We are currently located in Redwood City, Modesto, Santa Monica, Long Beach, and Culver City. However, you only need to come in for your first appointment. Then, all follow ups will be done through a secure video call which you can do anywhere you feel comfortable. This means you only have to make the drive to see us one time. We can also home deliver your prescriptions.
